The Weekly Toolbelt, Issue #1

One useful AI move for people who run a service business. 5-minute read.

Hey there,

If you run a cleaning business, a salon chair, a lawn route, or a plumbing van, you don't need another "AI will change everything" article. You need to win back an hour this week. That's the whole idea of this newsletter.

This week's move: stop losing jobs to missed calls and slow replies.

Most small service businesses miss calls while they're on a job. A lot of those callers simply phone the next business on Google. This week you'll set up a 10-minute fix using an AI assistant you probably already have.

๐Ÿ”ง Walkthrough: a "missed call" text kit in 10 minutes

Step 1: List your 5 most common questions. Think about what people ask when they call: price, availability, service area, how long it takes, how to book.

Step 2: Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini (the free versions work):

> I run a [type of business] in [city]. Write 5 short text-message replies (under 300 characters each) for these common customer questions: [paste your list]. Friendly, clear, no emojis overload. Every reply should end with how to book: [your booking link or "reply with a good time"]. Also write one auto-reply text for when I miss a call: "Sorry I missed you, I'm on a job..."

Step 3: Check the facts. AI writes the words; you check every price, time and promise. Fix anything that's off.

Step 4: Save them where you'll actually use them:

Step 5: Turn on a missed-call auto-text if your phone or business app supports it, using the reply from step 2.

What you get: replies in 5 seconds instead of 5 minutes, and fewer customers going to the next name on Google.

๐Ÿงฐ 3 tool picks

1. Google Business Profile (free). Make sure your hours, service area and booking link are right; it's where most local calls start. โ†’ google.com/business

2. Square Appointments (free plan for individuals; check the site for current terms). Lets customers book themselves at 2 a.m. โ†’ squareup.com/us/en/appointments

3. An AI receptionist (try one): Smith.ai, Goodcall or Rosie answer calls, take details and book jobs. Worth a look if you miss 5+ calls a week. Check each site for pricing and trials.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Quick win

Ask your AI assistant: "Rewrite my Google Business description so a customer understands in one sentence what I do, where, and how to book." Paste it in. Done.

That's it. Hit reply and tell me your trade and the most annoying task in your week; I'll write a guide about it.
